Smith takes 2nd step of the podium in WC #2 - Val di Sole, Italy | VAL DI SOLE, ITALY—Devinci Global Racing recently grappled a stacked lineup of steeps, technical terrain, and mach speeds, to score its 2nd podium finish of the 2013 UCI World Cup Series. Home to a rider-favorite World Cup course, Val Di Sole did not disappoint. Temperatures sat above 30 degrees celsius for the week, creating a bone dry track putting the riders through a rough and fast ride. Saturday’s qualifier saw all four DGR riders secure spots for Sunday’s main event. Steve Smith settled into 3rd place and Nick Beer riding from an unprotected position sat mid pack. Jr. riders Mark Wallace and Italian Gianluca Vernassa sat in 15th and 16th after Saturday’s seeding.

Sunday’s main event didn’t disappoint for a second straight week. The first podium worthy time was set by Troy Brosnon and would hold until the final 7 riders dropped down the near vertical track. After the dust storm had settled DGR rider Stevie Smith earned his second podium finish of the season, a second place finish. With this finish Stevie moved into second place in the overall UCI World Cup Standings.

On the Jr. side Gianluca Vernassa rode to 5th narrowly missing a podium finish while Mark Wallace finished 7th. The highlight from the Jr field was privateer rider Dean Lucas of Australia took the Jr mens with aboard his Devinci Wilson, securing the lead of the Jr. World Cup Series.

“We are seeing some amazing races these last two weeks. It is some of the most exciting racing I have seen in years. The team is off to a very solid start, the riders have worked hard in the offseason and the results are showing.”- Gabe Fox, DGR Team Manager

Next up Steve Smith and Mark Wallace will battle for Canadian National Championship titles followed by round 3 of the UCI World Cup in Andorra end of July.
