Return of the King
Why Whistler Loves Stevie X3 | The Stevie Smith Show crashed Whistler Crankworx last week—juiced for a threepeat performance on an ultrafast Canadian Open DH track.

But sometimes obstacles get in the way of priorities, and during Smith’s run on Sunday he collided with the timber up top, dumped his rig, and—like a boss—jumped back on and unleashed fury past a blur of shirtless beer guzzlers at Heckler’s Rock. At the finish line the dazed and dismayed B.C.-native peeped the leaderboard, felt the uproar, and saw that his salvage efforts had sealed a third consecutive win-against-all-odds at Whistler.

It was a perfect ending to a successful 10-day Crankworx grind for Devinci’s Global Racing squad. Earlier in the week, Smith piloted the new Troy 650B to top honors on a slick Air DH track, winning by 1.77 seconds.

“The 650B felt so solid,” Smith says. “I’ve sent some stuff to flat and most all-mountain bikes squiggle out when you bottom hard, but this thing just propelled forward.”

DGR teammate Nick Beer was also able to tap favorable forward momentum, riding a Devinci secret prototype to third at the Air DH—securing a double-podium for DGR. Beer also pocketed fifth at the Canadian Open DH event.

To close 10 days of everything from Pinkbike listing Smith as its DH god in the “10 Commandments of Heckler’s Rock” to buzz about the new Troy and a covert prototype in the works, Smith, a man of few words, had the obvious to say: “I am so pumped right now!”

The last man down, local hero, and king of the wicked mustache; there are many reasons to love Stevie Smith… and Whistler continues to have no shortage of them.
